OUR REVIEW

Much has been written about the Film´s Historic Significance. This is the First Hollywood Studio Movie to feature an Asian-American Cast since The Joy Luck Club was released a Quarter-Of-A-Century ago. It scored Unprecedented Success at the US Box Office, and there is already a Sequel in Development for this Winning Adaptation of Kevin Kwan´s 2013 Bestseller. “Crazy Rich Asians“ revisits Jane Austen´s Timeless Universal Truth about a Man in Possession of a Fortune being in want of a Wife. A Chinese-American Academic discovers her Boyfriend belongs to a Fabulously Wealthy Dynasty, they have Very Large Amounts of Money but remain Entirely Rational. The Title means Crazily or Extremely Rich.
Crazy Rich Asians isn´t Big on Subtlety and wants to overturn just One Cliche : that Rich People are Bad. But, with a Mostly All-Asian Cast, it´s a Corrective to the Hollywood Racism that decrees Asian Characters can only be shown Fleetingly, if at all, and then mostly in Subservient Roles. The Film features a Predominantly Asian and Asian-American Cast, starring Chinese and Chinese-American Actors alongside Performers from Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, and beyond. Very Pleasant Entertainment !
